You've got questions.  We've got answers!

firearm safety

Where are classes held?

Our range is not open to the public, 2 miles from the classroom. Address & details are provided after registration, in a detailed message prior to start and at the beginning of class.

What do I need to bring to class?

We supply everything needed in our beginner & Conceal Carry but other classes may *require* you to supply your own firearm and ammunition. Look for details in the description and throw us an email if you're unsure.

Are there any age restrictions?

Federal Law (18 U.S.C. 922) prohibits ownership & possession of a handgun by anyone under the age of 21 (with limited exceptions) and rifles/shotguns by anyone under the age of 18.

Therefore – it depends on the class.

Check details on each class page and email us if not stated.

Do you offer private or Women Only classes?

We certainly do and would be happy to setup a private class for you and your friends. Just click here to send us an email with you contact info and we'll give you a call to work out the details.

I've never shot a firearm before, what do you recommend?

Our First Shots class was made with you in mind. There are separate classes for Handgun, Rifle or Shotgun - pick the one you're interested in and sign-up. It's the perfect foundation for the shooting sports.

Do you have discounts?

Yes, but generally only for individuals such as military veterans, first responders and teachers. We can't give discounts to everyone, but for those who are selfless and desire to serve, definately! Get in touch with us before booking your class for a discount code!

What payment methods are accepted?

Our accountant frowns upon cash payments, so online payments are required. If you're having problems with registration, get in touch with us and we'll help.

Why do I have to go through another website ( to register?

They help us with record-keeping and payments so we don't have to maintain (and pay for) these resources ourselves.

What happens if there's a class cancellation?

A student who cancels their attendance 7 days or less from the date of registered class will forfeit $25.00 of their class dues. The student will be offered to reschedule the [same] class.

A student who does not show to a class will forfeit 100% of their class dues.

If any instructor cancels class, any registered student will be offered the option of a full refund or reschedule to another [same] class date.

What is the process for buying a firearm?

To purchase a long gun, no permit is necessary but you must be 18 years old with a valid NC state issued ID. The FFL Dealer (gun shop) will run a NICS background check on you, and assuming you pass will be allowed to purchase the firearm. To purchase a handgun, you must go to the Sheriff's Office in your county to request a Pistol Purchase Permit. Once received, you visit your local gun shop with it to find/purchase. If you decide a week later you'd like to buy another, or want to trade in the one you just bought, you need to visit the Sheriff's office again for another Pistol Purchase Permit. This process is required each and every time you want to purchase a handgun. If you have a Conceal Carry Handgun Permit, you do NOT need to visit the Sheriff's Office (outside of the initial requirements of obtaining that permit and renewals every 5 years) in order to purchase a handgun. Once you have either, visit your local gun shop and buy your new firearm. Then give us a call! :)

Can I carry a handgun into a bar or restaurant?

You are not allowed to Open Carry. You are allowed to carry a handgun in these locations concealed only if you have a Conceal Handgun Permit and only if the establishment has not posted "...a conspicuous notice prohibiting the carrying of a concealed handgun". Reference NCGS § 14-269.3

Why might I be denied a Conceal Permit in NC?

The list of qualifications and disqualifications can be found here. It's best to link to the General Statues to ensure you're looking at current data.

I have a Virginia Non Resident Carry Permit/License.  Why do I need to take your NC Conceal Carry class?

You don't - but you're short-changing yourself by omitting in-person firearm instruction. More importantly, our CCH class covers NC laws - information likely omitted from your online class. Examples Inform Law Enforcement when approched:

  • NC - Yes
  • VA - No
Brandishing a firearm illegal:
  • NC - No
  • VA - Yes

I've heard of something called Carry Insurance.  What is it and do I need it?

Different companies call it different things, but it's a service or membership that pays or helps you pay for legal expenses that arise from an incident involving deadly force in self-defense. We've researched the differences between the major competitors and our instructors use and recommend CCW Safe. Their membership plans span non-CCH permit holders to Law Enforcement and cover all legal fees, civil defense fees, expert witness fees and even pay you a set amount for missing work and post-trumatic therapy sessions (if needed). Get more info at the link above and join today.

Who can attend one of your classes?

Generally, anyone who is a US Citizen and can legally possess a firearm in North Carolina.
